Diane Askew ~ Caswell & Askew Studio

Hi! My name is Diane Askew and I am a wedding photographer in Sonoma, CA. I have owned and opertated Caswell & Askew Studio for over nine years now - during which time I have photographed over 300 wine country weddings.

In addition to showcasing my work on this blog, I also hope to educate couples as they organize their wedding photography coverage, often from thousands of miles away. I hope to help shed light on some often-confusing aspects of wedding photography, helping couples to make some important decisions armed with the most helpful information possible. I know what works and what doesn't. I have gained invaluable knowledge over the years, having encountered just about every possible "situation"! I truly believe that there is no substitute for experience when it comes to wedding photography. We have to be able to handle the pressure - along with the time-constraints, changes, etc. - that often accompany weddings, with the greatest of ease and confidence. There is no situation that I can't handle, which means that every wedding I photograph ends up flowing beautfully, no matter what arises.

Since I spend time behind the camera whenever possible, in addition to my work you can expect to see photographs from my birding trips, volunteer work at a local animal shelter, fine art, my son and two dogs, etc.

Please check back frequently as this blog evolves into an informative, entertaining, and useful resource for engaged couple around the world.

♥ Nicholas & Amy  Private Estate, Healdsburg, CA

Gosh, I have a lot of blogging to do!  Now that I have photographed my final wedding for the year, I will have a moment or two to finally post some of my weddings from this summer and fall…before the mad holiday rush begins! I’ll begin with images from Nick & Amy’s fairy tale-like wedding. Every detail of this wedding was carefully planned and perfectly executed.

Nick & Amy were married in a quaint church in Asti and celebrated their marriage at a private estate in Healdsburg.

I didn't use a flash in the church so that I could capture the rich colors of the available light. My fast lens is perfect for situations like this.

We took a few formals in the church before heading over to the reception.

That look says it all!

We actually took most of the formals before the ceremony. Amy & Nick could then mingle with their guests during their cocktail hour.

We took some portraits before the ceremony (at the estate) so that Amy & Nick would have more time to mingle with their guests during the cocktail hour.

A soft-focus filter was applied to the first picture, and the second was selectively colored.

I won a national wedding photography contest with this image - taken during the first dance.
